OSA on Facebook

In the early part of this year the Old Southendian Association launched a new initiative, with a webpage being created for the OSA on the social networking site Facebook. Facebook is a free-access social networking website that allows people from all over the globe to communicate in a quick and easy manner.

The Executive committee felt that in creating this page, it could allow members of the OSA to keep in touch regularly and keep up to date with the activities of the organisation and the school. Since its inception it has been very popular amongst varying generations of the Association and within the first couple days saw the number of members reach 205, with this number steadily increasing and at the time of this article the membership of the site has reached 245.

The site includes the varying aspects that the OSA and school have to offer, with items on the different Old Southendian Clubs, such as Football and Cricket. Other items include the four School Houses of Athens, Tuscany, Sparta and Troy, as well as a Student page for all current Sixth Form pupils. It is regularly maintained and information concerning upcoming OSA events is advertised on the homepage.

Topics of discussion can be created by members of the site and a number of photos from previous events can be seen. OSA on Facebook has proved to be successful amongst its users and is open to all members of the OSA. The site is looking to further progress by introducing new pages to the site that feature OSA members that are attending university, and already has pages for students for Oxford and Cambridge.

If you are not currently a user of this site and are interested in joining, you will need to be a member of Facebook, then please search Old Southendian Association and ask to join. Alternatively you can use the following link here.
